The Department of Microbiology and Plant Pathology's weekly Plant Pathology 250 seminar series is presented this week by:
Basubi Binti Zhilik, Microbiology Graduate Student (PhD), UC Riverside
Seminar Title: "Influence of Prescribed Burn Season on Soil Microbial Abundance, Richness, and Resilience in a Mixed Conifer Forest"
Biography: Basubi is a 3rd year Microbiology PhD candidate in Dr. Sydney Glassman's lab. She has an undergraduate and master's degree in forestry and wood technology from Khulna University, Bangladesh. She is interested in understanding how microbial composition and resilience is affected by natural stresses including fire and how this impacts ecosystem functions.
&
Esbeiry Cordova-Ortiz, Microbiology Graduate Student (PhD), UC Riverside
Seminar Title: "Post-Fire Microbial Inoculation effects on microbial community resilience and ecosystem recovery"
Biography: Esbeiry Cordova-Ortiz obtained a B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Ecology, Conservation, and Environmental Biology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was a post-baccalaureate student at Michigan State University for two years and worked as Diversity Assistant for the Ecological Society of America before coming to UCR. Esbeiry is currently a 2nd year PhD student in Microbiology in the Glassman lab and is broadly interested in the structure and function of microbial communities in disturbed environments.
