Carl Mendoza, Microbiology Graduate Student (PhD), UC Riverside
Seminar Title: "Investigating the role of novel metabolic innovations in mitochondria of the oomycete Phytophthora infestans"
Biography: Carl Mendoza is a 5th year Microbiology PhD candidate in the lab of Dr. Howard Judelson. The lab is broadly interested in studying the fungus-like oomycetes, in particular the notorious plant pathogens of Phytophthora. Carl's projects include making improvements to the CRISPR editing system in the late blight pathogen Phytophthora infestans and applying CRISPR to studying the pathways driving growth, development and pathogenesis.
