The Department of Microbiology and Plant Pathology's weekly Plant Pathology 250 seminar series is presented this week by:

Sola Awoyemi, Plant Pathology Graduate Student, UC Riverside. 

Seminar Title: "Evaluation of Biological and Chemical Fungicide Efficacies in Controlling Carrot Cavity Spot Caused by Pythium species and Their Impacts on the Soil Microbiome and Carrot Metabolites"

Biography: Sola has a Bachelors and Masters in Crop Protection from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria. Currently, as a 2nd-year Ph.D. student in Dr. Gachomo's Lab, his research focuses on investigating eco-friendly approaches for the sustainable management of Carrot Cavity Spot caused by Pythium species. His study also explores alterations in the soil microbiome composition resulting from Bio-fungicide interactions with the pathogen and identifies specific metabolites that undergo significant changes in infected carrots.

Lida Halilovic, Plant Pathology Graduate Student, UC Riverside. 

Seminar Title: "Extracellular Vesicles in the Plant Defense Response to Fungal Pathogens"

Biography: Lida is a 3rd year PhD Candidate in Dr. Hailing Jin’s lab. Her research focuses on the metabolite and mRNA contents of plant extracellular vesicles in the context of the plant defense response to fungal pathogen infection.
