The Department of Microbiology and Plant Pathology's weekly Plant Pathology 250 seminar series is presented this week by Angela Chen, Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Microbiology & Plant Pathology, UC Riverside.
Seminar Title: "Engineering Deinococcus radiodurans for improved nanoparticle biosynthesis using regulatory RNAs"
Biography: Angela is a postdoctoral researcher in Professor Hailing Jin’s lab at the University of California, Riverside. She received her B.S degrees in Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering from the Ohio State University. She completed her M.S and Ph.D in Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin under the guidance of Professor Lydia Contreras. During her Ph.D., Angela investigated the role of regulatory RNAs in metal nanoparticle biosynthesis by extremophilic bacteria. These efforts led to insights into how small RNAs can be used to genetically tune nanoparticle properties and functionality. Building upon her desire to develop sustainable technologies, Angela joined Dr. Jin’s lab in July 2021. Her current research focuses on investigating RNA trafficking in plantpathogen systems and the development and optimization of nanomaterials for dsRNA delivery in anti-fungal strategies.
